WATG's Hotel Monte Mulini due to open this summer

Destination design firm Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo (WATG) is due to open the Hotel Monte Mulini in Rovinj later this year. A historic coastal city on the Istrian peninsula of Croatia on the Adriatic coast, this hotel will have 120 rooms including 19 luxury suites, designed in a sophisticated, contemporary, yet timeless style. Since the hotel will be open year-round, the design will incorporate both summer and winter seasonal elements. Because a nature reserve is situated across the bay from the hotel and the hotel itself is set within the city on a main promenade, both urban and natural elements are a part of the design. Sustainable design features include the use of overhangs for solar shading and the specification of natural building materials including local stone.
WATG won the competition for the project and is the first international architect to do work in the region. The hotel will be owned and operated by Maistra d.d., a leading Croatian hotel company, member of Adris Group. "WATG, from my perspective, provides tremendous value to business with their excellent understanding of the value creation process,” says the client, Damir Vanđelić, investments director of Adris Grupa d.d. “The firm demonstrates a great ability to adapt to specifics of the local culture and values.”
The hotel is slated to open in June of 2008.
