Rojkind Arquitectos and Esrawe Studio awarded the People's Choice Award
Considered one of the best Japanese restaurants in Mexico City, Tori Tori, designed by Rojkind Arquitectos and Esrawe Studio, has won the People’s Choice Award in the commercial and institutional arch <1,000 sq m category. The prestigious Azure Magazine AZ Awards was held at the Thompson hotel in Toronto on June 7th 2012 where 60 finalists were chosen from more than 620 entries from over 30 countries.
Completed in 2011, the restaurant is located in Polanco, has a construction area of 629 sq m, and boasts a range of open spaces, terraces, a sake bar, and its own Japanese-inspired temple. Although Japan is a clear inspiration, the restaurant bears its own personal and contemporary expression. The façade, which is made of two hand-crafted, self-supporting layers of steel plates, is reminiscent of the ivy surrounding the retaining walls. Customers eat and drink amid natural vegetation inside and outside the building.
I.D. Héctor Esrawe, from ESRAWE Studio says: "We seek in the project a chance for the users to link with the different ambiances and choose their favourites. Each space’s materials, setup and characteristics towards the furniture generate a wide spectrum of options and sensations for its assiduous clients." Tori Tori’s interiors are all varied and eclectic in style to suit each diner’s preference.
