Saphire + Albarran's fit out for new imaging centre in New Jersey
This project creates a new standard of care for medical imaging in an underserved area. Located in Southern New Jersey, where the area's only hospital, Kessler Hospital, was recently closed, the project establishes a state-of-the-art medical imaging center within a new Urgicare Center that is open 24 hours a day. Saphire + Albarran's work involved the insertion of a full service ambulatory imaging center within a building shell designed by EwingCole Architects.
The project locates seven modalities within the space in an efficient layout that reduces steps and fatigue for patients and medical staff, including a 1.5 T MRI, CT Scan, Radiology and Fluoroscopy, X-Ray, Mammography, Bone Densitometry and Ultrasound. The architects endeavored to create a warm, comfortable and serene setting that evokes a calm atmosphere. High-level hospitality grade finishes and a warm colour palette were selected. The design belies its location in a low socio-economic community.
