Innovative design re-defines the work environment, naturally

The Giant Group, a publicly-traded company, held a design competition for a new building in Shanghai to house the IT offices and employee amenities for the 2,000-employee gaming software division. Giant wanted to express their technologically advanced and environmentally responsive principals through this addition to their campus.
Perkins Eastman designed an inspirational facility, organized into two phases, to highlight the corporate brand’s pride in innovation, creativity, and culture; taking advantage of proximity to the lake, it harvests geothermal energy to generate a portion of the power requirements. Sheltering the two-storey 1,670 sm (18,000 sf) amenities wing, a dramatic folded roof collects water for storage, cleaning, and reuse on the site. The program unifies campus culture, providing a cafeteria, café, tea house, large meeting and training rooms, gymnasium, and grocery store.
The six-storey 48,000 sm (520,000 sf) IT center’s planning principles give priority to workplace productivity, collaboration, and technological innovation with work spaces arranged in groups of small “neighborhoods.” A multi-level atrium with skylights infuses the building with natural light and sculptural, branch-like columns support the energy-saving roof system fitted with photovoltaic panels.
