Swedish based architects reinterpret classic design
Johan Sundberg Architectural Design is an independent architectural firm in Lund, located in the south of Sweden. The office specializes in the design of private housing and was selected as one of 30 offices worldwide for the 2010 Wallpaper Architects Directory.
On his design process, Sundberg says "I begin all my projects with a quick and very intuitive design process that relies heavily on the spirit of the site and my understanding of the clients. I would say that form, space and order surpass any kind of conceptual ideas or beliefs."
The studio makes use of new technologies whilst keeping the important questions about space the same. "Great architecture does not arise from any particular treatment of material or style. Such a recipe does not exist. Modern materials both know their limitations like in past times, and can at the same time be pressured to perform in unrecognizable ways." says Sundberg.
Doing away with traditional styles, the practice trusts sense and intellect. It looks to solutions that always seem to work, such as respect for nature and collective resources, the need for order and sensual qualities. "These qualities more readily appear in a carefully measured design where the necessary reductions have been made without losing too much complexity. Managing this balance is the true role of the architect."
