nARCHITECTS strive to create a balance between iconic architecture and sensitive design

nARCHITECTS is an emerging internationally-recognized practice based in New York City. They strive to create evocative and socially responsible work that resonates with their users' visions and those of culture at large. nARCHITECTS approach to context is nuanced and agile, sensitive to opportunities, and irreverent to cliches. They approach environmental questions as both technical and larger cultural issues. In short, they achieve simple designs that produce a richness and flexibility of experience, with an economy of conceptual and material means.

The office was founded in 1999 with the aim of joining innovative concepts, social responsibility and technical precision in addressing contemporary issues. Consistency in approach rather than form or style guides the work. nARCHITECTS begins each project with thoughtful research and analysis of a broad palette of issues: the users' identity and needs, the physical and cultural context, technical requirements, and environmental opportunities. Their award-winning range of projects is united by their goal of achieving innovation alongside clarity of purpose. One of the hallmarks of their work is their ability to balance iconic presence with a nuanced sensitivity to physical and cultural contexts. Their work stands out, not apart.

nARCHITECTS aims to define new intersections between architecture, landscape, art, and technology in each project, ranging from buildings, public space, and installations. Regardless of scale or disciplinary realm, each project is treated by the office with lightness, intensity, and deep commitment. Projects include Forest Pavilion, a cultural venue for the Forestry Bureau in Hualien, Taiwan (2011); Canopy, a temporary environment for MoMA PS1, New York City (2004); Windshape, an event space for the Savannah College of Art and Design in Lacoste, France (2006); Switch Building, a residential building in New York City (2007); and ABC Dbayeh Department Store and Cineplex Facades in Beirut, Lebanon (completion in 2012).
