The silver Soumaya Museum shines in Mexican sun

An innovative architecture firm with an experienced team and a global perspective, FREE was established in 1999 by architect Fernando Romero.

FREE uses architecture as a tool to translate a moment in society and culture, and each one of the firm's projects is focused on defining striking concepts that translate the ambitions of its clients. Through extensive technological and social research, a commitment to sustainability, and unprecedented use of structures and materials, FREE works with collaborative, multidisciplinary teams in a hybrid, hands-on process that truly embodies contemporary architecture.

For FREE, architecture is a tool to translate restrictions, ambitions, challenges, conditions, political and economic moments into structures with unique identities - ultimately translating a moment in culture and society into three-dimensional form. This way of working is simultaneously locally and globally informed, projecting dreams and aspirations in the form of diverse buildings and master plans.

FREE's work process brings different disciplines together, in a symbiotic process that delivers the most advanced and memorable results. An iconic example can be found in the Soumaya Museum a charismatic, ethereal and otherworldly volume in Mexico City. This large-scale project is revolutionary from every angle: from its iconic, distinct shape to the technological advancements required to create its double-curve facade; and from its striking design concept to rigorous engineering and construction.

With a firmly established track record of successful projects worldwide, FREE believes the uniqueness of each project derives from its functionality and response to today's culture and demands. Integrating a thorough analysis of the market's needs and trends into the early stages of the design process, FREE's teams work to achieve pre-defined goals, mitigating risks and assuring satisfactory returns.

Works include: G20 Congress Center, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (to be fully completed 2012); Saba Tower, Mexico City, (2011); MAP Art Museum of Panama, Panama (2011); Mar Museum, Riviera Maya, Tulum, Mexico (2011); Plaza Mariana, La Villa, Mexico City (completed 2011); Toluca House, Toluca, Mexico (completed 2010); Bicentennial Moebius Ring, Mexico City (competition 2009); El Eco Experimental Museum, Mexico City, Mexico (completed 2007).
