Klein Dytham are at the forefront of a new type of global, community-centric practice.

Klein Dytham architecture (KDa) was established in Tokyo by RCA graduates Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham. KDa is active in the architecture, interiors, installations, product design and events. Work includes the PechaKucha 20 images x 20 seconds format taking the architectural and design world by storm with PechaKucha Nights running in almost 500 cities and with over 100 events taking place each month making it the world's biggest physical creative network.

KDa's most recent architectural project, Tsutaya Books (Dec 2011) in Central Tokyo has quickly become one of the most important cultural centre in Tokyo, redefining how books and digital media can co-exist.

Their Police Box (April 2011) part of the Kumamoto Artpolis Project curated by Tokyo Ito is typical of the delight they bring to buildings, taking cues from what is around them, in this case a police car, to make architecture readable by everyone.

KDa has been working to refine the workplace in Japan. Their interior design for Google Japan, an ambitious interior project for Google, reflects the client's ambition to invent amazing things. KDa sought to create a fun, inspiring workplace with places for brainstorming, casual chats, or simply to hang out between bursts of work. Colour and graphics, a key component of KDa's language, were used extensively throughout the project to inject wit and build a way finding system.

Sony commissioned KDa's architecture to totally preconceive the design of their retail stores around the globe. They wanted a system that would unify their one hundred stores, but that could adjust to local conditions. The first new store has just been completed in Los Angeles, and KDa's system will soon be rolled out internationally. The firm believe that KDa is at the forefront of a new type of practice that is ‘beyond architecture' and sees architecture, interiors, products, graphics events and global community building as a single holistic practice.
