Spanish firm inspired by the traditional seaside architecture
Diaz and Diaz Architects is a young architectural practice based in Spain, formed by the architects Gustavo Diaz Garcia and Lucas Diaz Sierra, with a team of collaborators from different nationalities. Most of their work develops from a previous competition stage, covering from the small private house to the institutional public building.
The practice is located in a small fishing village of the early twentieth century called Redes, situated on the northern edge of the estuary of Ares, in the Galician Rias Altas. This project involves the renovation and extension of two existing houses which didn´t preserve the traditional urban configuration of Redes, converting them into their architectural practice and house.
Most of their projects are implemented in the coastal edge of this region called the Coast of Death, by the numerous shipwrecks that have occurred there. The seaside turns into one of the main protagonists of most of their works, becoming an essential element in developing the project design.
They propose a contemporary architecture designed to integrate values such as environmental, sustainability, economy, rationality and a constructive rigor, with the respect and inspiration of the site environment as a starting point and basis for the development of the project design.
Their works have been selected for prestigious awards such as Leading European Architects Forum (LeafAwards) WorldArchitecture News (WanAwards), College of Architects of Galicia (COAG Prizes), Awards of Architecture of Madrid, Enor Awards and Fad Awards.
They have collaborated with different institutions in courses, conferences and exhibitions: University of Architecture of La Coruña, Barcelona and Madrid, Complutense, Alfonso X El Sabio, Architecture University College of Dublin, College of Architecture of Galicia and Barcelona, College of Surveyors of Madrid, Casa de Galicia in Madrid, The Institute of Architecture de San Francisco (California), PechaKuchaNight conferences.
