Marc Casany Estrada unveils his new offices of CTTI for the government of Catalonia

The idea of the CTTI project was based on creating a new way of working in the offices of the IT and telecommunication services of the Government of Catalonia (CTTI). The new work space represents a new insight in the habits of office work, transforming the CTTI into an excellent benchmark for the ICT service provider.

The solution was established to create a new concept of offices with the following objectives:

Firstly, to create new work dynamics: The concept was based on creating a place where users can make use of a knowledge exchange in a collaborative environment.

Secondly, there was the idea of promoting communication: The space is the meeting point for work and knowledge to be promoted.

The final objective was to establish a new corporate identity: The new workspace has been created with a highly technical design and innovation, showing a strong image and represented by the Generalitat de Catalunya. The architects set out to convert the interior into a sequence of working areas surrounding a central, open zone.

The plan also includes a library, various meeting rooms, two classrooms, an archive, three laboratories and two workshops. Rooms dedicated to collective working sessions are housed in individual boxes that encircle the communal area while also concealing the building's load-bearing columns, thus creating the illusion of a continuous, open space. This effect is emphasised by the mirrored surfaces of some of the outer walls, which visually enlarge the space.

All materials used in the project reinforce the colour scheme of CTTI's new corporate identity. The floors and walls combine orange rubber coverings with neat, white surfaces, while pebble beds soften the transitions between inner and outer spaces, generating faux interior gardens.

The end result is a vital, optimistic working space that's a far cry from the original dismal basement.
