Award Entry

EASTON+COMBS approaches building as a context for exploration of environments

EASTON+COMBS is an award winning architectural office operating as a laboratory for building innovation at the intersection of material practice and applied architectural research. EASTON+COMBS approaches building as a context for exploration of environments and the development of new spatial typologies towards critical models of social and cultural production at the scale of architecture and urbanism.

The office has been consistently recognised with awards and winning competition entries in international architectural competitions. They have received design awards in the AIANY Design Awards 2010 and the 2011 programmes. Most recently they were awarded in the biannual New Practices New York 2010 competition with the 'highest honor' citation recognizing innovative emerging practices in New York City.

EASTON+COMBS were invited to participate in the MoMA P.S.1 Young Architects Program in 2009-10 where they proposed a design scheme applying material research of lightweight structural membranes for public space implementation.

Lonn Combs is the 2012 recipient of the Rome Prize in Architecture at the American Academy in Rome where he is conducting research on the topic "New Vectors of Liquid Stone: Speculations on the Material Innovations of Pier Luigi Nervi and the Roman Tradition."
