I wish they would have gone grander, Manila's skyline is massive, Trump Tower won't even stand out that much on the skyline considering that there would probably be 30 skyscrapers with at least 200m in height by the time this building is completed.

Why do editorials have to use the word "slums" to equate it to Manila? Slums prevail everywhere in the world even in South America, India, China or any other developing country. Can writers be more positive and sensitive to other countries' welfare?
By the way the design looks inappropriate and too industrial! Local architects would have done better.

WAN is an architectural forum, yet this article made no mention of the name of the architect who designed it. It reads like an article out of a finance newspaper.

New designs for luxury tower in Manila

In yesterday’s edition of News Review we ran a short feature on an affordable lighting scheme in the slums outside Manila, the second most populous city in the Philippines, showcasing an ingenious design that offered a solution to those who can’t afford the electricity to light their houses. Moments after our e-newsletter was sent, details of this soaring luxury tower arrived on the WAN Newsdesk in stark contrast to the poverty-stricken slum shelters on the outskirts of the city.

This 250m spire is owned and developed by Philippines-based Century Properties who are marketing the project as ‘a symbol of power, achievement and modern grandeur’. If seen through to realisation, Trump Tower™ Manila - designed by Broadway Malyan - will be one of the tallest buildings in the Philippines, incorporating over 220 units of sleek residential space ranging from 57 sq m to a generous 435 sq m, supported by various luxury amenities.

These exclusive facilities include a library, business centre, communal lounge, video room, juice bar, sun deck, lap pool, and spa and fitness centre. Located in the developer’s flagship development - Century City - within the financial district of Makati City, this is a tower for the elite.

As Eric Trump, Executive Vice President of Development and Acquisitions of the New York-based Trump, details: “The architecture of Trump Tower Manila is something that is going to be prominent on the Manila skyline for years to come. [It is] a beautiful glass building - very architecturally significant [with an] incredible spire. It’s really just an iconic modern building; very tall, very chic, something that really symbolises everything that a Trump-branded project means.”

Encased in a shimmering glass façade, the ‘peeled’ aesthetic offers a dynamic exterior to this residential block. Light shelves and shading systems ensure an environmentally responsive volume while intelligent engineering ensures that the form will resist a range of seismic shudders and address high wind loads. Project Head and Managing Director of Century Properties, Robbie Antonio, concludes: “The building’s exterior is designed with a lustrous curtain wall that maximises the city’s spectacular panoramic views, and is one of the very few residential buildings in Manila to carry such a thoroughly detailed design.”
