stephenson bell architects private house in Cheshire
On the house’s road, the house types are suburban; conservative, bland and faux traditional. Our approach therefore was to create a fresh contemporary version of the suburban house type; that reacts to its context and is tailored to specifically suit the client’s needs.
The building’s form is created by the intersection of two volumes, with the living areas placed on the ground floor to allow for maximum privacy and to provide clear views and direct access into the garden.
The building’s layout has been generated to enable one to meander through it and discover places and views as you do so.
The project’s main challenge was in convincing the planning department that a contemporary house was suitable for the area!
