House rises from salt water and wood pilings on water lot near the Jersey Shore
Drawing from the nature of the site, a spit of land on a coastal lagoon with characteristic bulkheads and docks, the Shore House rises up on wood piles and at once harmonises with the weathered wood and ambiance of coastal buildings.
Water seemingly permeates the ground plane and channels entry, reminiscent of returning fishing boats, and as a gentle reminder of escape to the sea. Water pools in moments throughout the ground floor, recalling the lagoon and the beach. Light shines through layers of the skin, systematically decomposing sun and moon light. The light filter, in tandem with an axial skylight, links the interiors of the Shore House to the sky.
The use of elements of nature as architectural components is the signature style of Raad Studio, which is to treat natural building elements as simply as possible to achieve a minimally rich game of sensuality. Simple geometries and material palettes, thoughtfully sourced and selected, allows the Shore House to present an elegant and humble approach to north eastern American, seaside, single family house.
