Second monograph for Tom Kundig's innovative residential designs 

Principal of the multiple award-winning Olson Kundig Architects, Tom Kundig is renowned for his inventive residences that push the boundaries of design just that little bit further. His tendency to beautifully defy conventions is nowhere more evident than in Olson Kundig Architects' The Pierre. The eponymous building is both nestled in and carved from an enormous rock in the San Juan Islands, United States; a modernist, glass-fronted cube emerging out of the landscape like a 21st-century cave-dwelling.

The design, which integrates respect for the natural landscape with a flawless aesthetic, was awarded Winner of the WAN House of the Year Awards in 2010. Other Olson Kundig Architects residences such as Shadowboxx share this cosy, intimate feel with a restrained design that sets these buildings apart from their contemporaries - a virtue that is reflected in the firm's 70+ regional and global AIA Awards.

The unique splendour of Kundig's work has been celebrated before in his first monograph, Tom Kundig: Houses, published in 2006, but his latest gems can now be perused in the newly released sequel, Tom Kundig: Houses 2. Featuring 17 homes, the book demonstrates how the Seattle-based architect is actively redefining the vocabulary of architecture and demonstrating his commitment to the experiential nature of space, branding him as a unique figure among international practitioners.
