Music hall turns student dorm in a fusion of ancient and contemporary Chinese styles

The project is to transform an old musical hall into a dormitory and multi-functional information centre for students. The architecture of traditional Chinese style is renovated with a fusion of modernism and the essence of Chinese culture.

J. M. Lin Architect's design preserves the traditional roof slope and decorates the exterior with piled glass fences to allow in maximum natural light. The cubic glasses together assemble the prevailing QR-Code, where the profound message of a great Chinese calligrapher is included.

The architects aim to deliver the values of Chinese culture with modern spatial design and technology. Integrating old and new in the contemporary presentation method, J. M. Lin Architect aspires to the notion of architecture as a platform for the free and open communication of knowledge.
