Sanjay Puri Architects Red Lounge in Mumbai

Cinemax is a six screen cineplex, the largest currently in Mumbai. The six screens are arranged in a single line with the resultant lobby space appearing very linear as in a corridor. Moreover the height variation as low as 2.5 M at one end across the width and 8M high at the other end created a further obstacle in the proportions of the existing space. A wavy curvilinear ceiling was created to merge the disparate heights and allow the space to feel larger. Towards the end, a lounge area is created and christened "The Red Lounge", by its shiny red floor. Large screens of varying heights created by sandwiching plastic pipe sections within sheets of glass are located alongside the windows to the lobby, screening off the outside view of adjacent buildings and creating a distinct identity to the lobby. Color changing LEDs transform the screens into varying hues of blues and reds creating different moods within.
