Stock Woolstencroft's West Stockwell Primary Care and Community Resource Centre in London
Work on the multi-use, West Stockwell Primary Care and Community Resource Centre (110 Union Road) in South West London has recently completed. It is the first part of a multi-phase, £9.8 million development, designed by architects and urban designers Stock Woolstencroft for Family Mosaic. This building will breathe new life into the area, improving the lives of those in Stockwell who have had poor access to healthcare and other community facilities. In addition, Stock Woolstencroft has integrated sustainable features into the architecture to develop a building that is striking and does much to improve the streetscape, as well as having a strong environmental rationale. It is a sustainable building which will help to build a sustainable community, one where people want to live and work both now and in the future. Contemporary architecture will play its part in regenerating the vicinity through the introduction of quality. The public facades are solid and robust, clad in render and cedar and contrasting with the predominant local brickwork (highlighting the building’s public status). Meanwhile, the glazed foyer provides a visual and physical link to the interior, drawing passers-by into the garden beyond and reinforcing that sense of community that local residents requested from the outset.
