Concept for a 200ha luxury resort in the heart of the Pantanal Region presented by ABA
The design of a resort in Lago do Manso by About Blank Architecture (ABA) arises within the role of private investments for the 2014 World Cup in the region of Mato Grosso. The need of creation of hotels, as well as the potential that the Lago do Manso and the Pantanal region have in terms of tourism, spurred the creation of this venture.
The project area extends over 200ha and hosts a comprehensive program, containing a hotel for 600 beds, conference hall, spa, water park, golf course 18 holes, marina, private airport with a 1km paved runway, hangar, heliport, horse riding school and a residential condominium. The intervention strategy begins with the creation of primary and secondary road structures and implementation of new landmarks like the big scale central square. Thus, the project focuses on the landscape and takes advantage of the terrain morphology, structured to develop on the several levels.
On the first level is located the hotel, marina, and part of the condominium, in close proximity to the lake. Along the intervention are created observation platforms and external lounge areas, with a clear relationship with the landscape, in order to increase the site experience. At higher levels, the remaining program is developed, and the residential condominium extends through the site parallel to the golf course, increasing the quality in areas where the landscape has a lower value. Also important in this proposal are the different strategies of sustainability.
They give a key contribution to reduce the environmental impact of new development. All buildings have green-roofs -sometimes used as leisure areas. This is a vast and complex intervention, which tries to conceal the large masses of intervention using clear technical options, avoiding a major impact in its surroundings, but yet representing a new cycle and creating a new landmark in the region.
