Self Adhesive Switchable Film technology enables the instant transition of clear panels into high-definition screens
Pro Display has been at the forefront of the PDLC Switchable (also known as Smart) Glass and Film technology market for over ten years. During 2010 they released their new Self Adhesive Switchable Film due to high demand from their worldwide dealer / distributor network. The new self adhesive version of the product has evolved from standard Switchable Film which could only be applied to glass using a specialist UV curing process.
The self adhesive version comes complete with an electrostatic cling adhesive meaning the film can be simply retro-fitted to new or existing glass without any specialist training. When an electrical current is applied the film can be switched from clear to frosted to create instant privacy or reduce solar heat gain or glare. While in its frosted state the film can also be used as a high-definition projection screen.
Some examples of where Switchable Film has been used to help an architect realise a design or performance specification are as follows:
Cirque Du Soleil Headquarters (Montreal, Canada) - Pro Display Switchable Film was used to transform the Cirque Du Soleil HQ into a large format advertising screen by night, which appeared as clear glass panels by day.
St. Andrews Church (Leyland, UK) - Pro Display Switchable Film is currently being used as a high definition projection screen for church services. When not in use, the screen can be switched to clear to ensure the screen does not detract from the grade 2 listed building's architecture. Without the functionality of the Switchable film switching from clear to frosted, the architect could not overcome planning restrictions imposed.
Northern General Hospital (Sheffield, UK) - Pro Display Switchable Film was installed in the children's special care unit where it is used to instantly control privacy if a patient is in a critical state. Pro Display Switchable Film technology has also been used by the following clients in the last 3 years to name but a few - London Stock Exchange, Bloomberg TV, BBC (watchdog and waking the dead), Fox Productions, Honda F1 Team, Extreme Makeover Home Edition (US), World Trade Centre (New York City).
