The Miami Art Museum unveils concept design by Herzog and de Meuron

The Miami Art Museum has released the first images of its new digs, under design by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron. Terrance Riley, the Museum’s Director and the former Architecture Curator at MoMA, said the early release of the design was important to involve the public in the process. The new museum, to be located on Biscayne Bay, will almost quadruple the Museum’s current size to 120,000 square feet. The current design calls for a transparent 3-storey structure with a large canopy and a large planted plaza. The US $220 million project is scheduled to begin construction in late 2008 and be completed by 2011.
