Hilton Surfers Paradise prepares to open on the Gold Coast this September
One of Australasia’s largest architecture groups is the creative mastermind behind the design of the two-tower Hilton Surfers Paradise, scheduled to open in September this year. Acclaimed architects The Buchan Group designed both towers as well as most of the interior of the $700m development. Their brief was to create a sophisticated hotel and residences offering unrivalled service on the Gold Coast, capturing stunning views of the long white beaches to the east and mountain ranges and winding canals to the west.
Buchan Group Director Gerry Holmes said the Hilton Surfers Paradise towers were designed with simplicity in mind: “The buildings showcase strong external design features with a vertical dialogue between the two towers and a significant difference in height to ensure each tower possesses its own identity.
“The result is two visually impressive buildings of stunning form and simplicity. Despite the structural differences, each part has a logical, functional purpose and each is inextricably related to the building’s use and location. The great arcs responding to water and land are represented in an oppositional dialogue, while at the same time stabilising the relationship between them.”
Hilton Surfers Paradise General Manager David Kelly said the unique, sail-like design of the towers embodied the style and energy of Hilton Surfers Paradise: “The complex itself aligns with our vision for Hilton Surfers Paradise, in that it’s distinct, yet offers a fresh and sophisticated vibe. As the first Hilton Hotel in Australia to offer a combined hotel and residences concept, we are confident we have created a product that positions us as an industry leader. The Buchan Group has created a fresh design, inspired by the coast. It maximises the breathtaking views of the ocean as well as the luscious hinterland, and reflects the Gold Coast on both the interior and exterior of the buildings.”
