Contemporary addition to heritage streetscape
Situated in a quiet inner city street bound on both sides by Sydney Harbour, Louisa Road apartments consist of 6 luxury dwellings. Replacing a 1960's apartment building of 32 dwellings, the new structure aims to relate to the eclectic and energetic streetscape without mimicking the historic structures. A patterned veil covers the building in a geometric pattern aimed to reference the Victorian lace work of the adjoining heritage terraces but with a distinct Australian flavour. Proportionally the building reflects the scale and pattern of the peninsula’s historical subdivision pattern ensuring the pedestrian experience is human and intimate. This is a building which aims to contribute proactively to the streetscape in a city plagued by mediocre, regressive and bland architectural outcomes.
