Third Ecology Architects' Queens Park Residence
This 3 bedroom, 230m2 residence on a steep riverside site is
inspired by the renowned Austrian artist ‘Hundertwasser’.
Bright colours are used as a pure reflection of nature and to
announce to all “Somebody lives here who is different to
everybody else”.
The design response resulted in a cranked roof form to take
best advantage of a limited solar window, and direct
stormwater to the underfloor water storage.
An innovative concrete screed slab was laid over an elevated
and hyperinsulated timber floor structure in the living area,
to provide much needed thermal mass.
Sustainability targets:
• 100% electricity self-sufficiency
• 100% water self-sufficiency
• 100% on site wastewater reuse
• Extensive use of sustainable materials (e.g. recycled/
FSC timbers)
• 100% carbon neutral
