A new £11.5m DLR station at Stratford in East London, designed to replace the existing station, has just started construction. Commissioned by Docklands Light Railway Ltd in July 2003. The existing DLR station platform at Stratford is incapable of expanding physically to meet continuing passenger growth, Alsop was briefed to design a completely new station that would meet DLR’s requirements for additional passenger capacity, improved train frequencies as well as longer platforms for future three car train operations. Making space for the 2012 Olympics and future Crossrail, the new station is the first piece in the jigsaw of a wider Stratford masterplan.
