super-star service of an exclusive hotel with the intimacy of a private home
Architect David Wahl collaborated with Melanie Hall, owner of Luna2 private hotel, to create this groundbreaking design which was intended to be a vastly different approach to the ubiquitous ‘modern Bali' style. Wahl's brief was to reference renowned modernist works of the past, whilst infusing extreme 21st century innovation. Wahl then created this unique, ultra-modern building, adhering to Hall's "funked-up modernism" design ethos. It's somewhat "South Beach" simplicity is a backdrop for Hall's signature interiors.
Luna2 private hotel's architecture is reminiscent of modernism of Europe and the US. It is an architectural style that would be more expected on the shores of South Beach Miami than Seminyak Beach in Bali. The building brought the modernist style out of its classic location and era and into a new habitat, propelling it into the future. Although startling at first, the building is now a welcome surprise for residents and tourists alike, pushing design boundaries in a community bound by traditional construction rules. It sits proudly and naturally in its beachfront location as a design pioneer, leading others to push design boundaries.
Luna2 private hotel combines locally sourced and imported materials according to their quality and adherence to the design vision. The imported tiled interior Italian flooring is factory-made terrazzo with metallic silver chips, and is more durable, non-porous and more sophisticated than locally poured terrazzo. Other imported materials include vast sliding aluminium doors custom-designed in Australia, Dynalite lighting system; Bisazza mosaics throughout, including a 15m customised Marilyn ‘lying' at the base of the lap pool. Local materials chosen include the 60's-esque andesit stone wall behind the luna bar, the bengkirai wood pool deck and locally poured terrazzo poolside. Luna2 private hotel design ultimately respects the past, welcomes the future, with a sense of fun!
