Henry J Lyons & Partners' Whitewater Shopping Centre in Ireland
The development of this strategic and prime town centre site, which was characterised by an array of semi-derelict industrial buildings has done much to regenerate the area and has brought a new vitality and vibrancy to the existing town centre. The overall design objective was to create a generous and sophisticated shopping environment behind a lively façade of residential and commercial units fully integrated with the existing urban network of streets.
The architectural rhythm and scale is contemporary and forward looking, appropriate to the status of the centre as a major public building. The dramatic double height entrance signals the shopping malls beyond.
The architecture of the double level malls continues seamlessly from the outside creating a retailing environment which is both dramatic yet legible, visually stimulating and characterised by the quality of natural light within.
