160m elliptical tower forms a commanding presence in City of Dreams

The Crown Hotel at City of Dreams in Macau is, at 160m, the tallest and most luxurious of the project’s four hotel towers within this flagship integrated resort and entertainment centre, measuring a GFA of 512,500 sq m.

City of Dreams is the latest casino development on Macau’s Cotai strip and the project embodies a strong reference to water throughout the 122,000 sq m site. Each of the towers was designed to acknowledge the water theme and present a distinct and varied identity in their form.

The luxurious Crown is designed to attract a sophisticated gaming audience. By contrast, The Hard Rock offers a more relaxed resort-type hotel which also includes its own gaming floor. Both are further complimented by the twin-towered Grand Hyatt which adds a more business-like, convention-orientated approach.

Although the hotels are distinctly different in form, the architectural language cleverly ties them together into one coherent composition with soft flowing forms and through the use of similar curtain wall materials and facade lighting – each responding to water elements and other features located in and around the project.

The elliptical Crown Hotel stands proudly in the north-west corner of the site, taking command as it overlooks the Cotai strip. A series of vertical fins descending from the top of the Crown break up as they reach the reflecting pools and water features at the base.

Reminiscent of falling rain, the vertical fins on the facade begin their architectural flow from a rooftop feature which takes the form of sharp projecting blades that illuminate at night - and appropriately, create a very royal 'crown' feature to promote and enhance the development’s head building.
