State-of-the-art, sustainable learning center fosters creative expression and stirs the imagination

ImaginOn, a new landmark facility combines the innovative programs of two institutions, the Public Library of Charlotte Mecklenburg County and the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, in a visually stimulating and environmentally-friendly building. The city’s first LEED-certified public building, ImaginOn houses performance spaces, a library, rehearsal rooms and art studios in varied geometric shapes, which protrude from a central parallelogram and are internally linked by a sinuous ramp. Angled walls and roof and colorful contrasting materials create dynamic spatial and tactile experiences that challenge, inspire and excite young minds. The overall result is a structure open to interpretation, just as any element of a story might be.
