ARCAS EUROPE to create a new touristic destination and marina for Penglai
Penglai, situated directly at the Yellow Sea has been ranked as one of China’s top domestic tourist destinations. At present, the tourism industry is transforming from sightseeing to holiday spending. Penglai City has composed a long-term plan to reserve some lands special for characteristic tourist projects and has put in huge capital to build the infrastructure for holiday-spending tourism. And along with the increase of leisure, holiday behaviour change, and the emerging market for short breaks, there exists a growing market for holiday homes.
Arcas Europe’s Masterplan extends over a total area of 1,700 ha site. Together with the site for the new marina (1,224 ha) and its neighboring site (510 ha) for a golf course and tennis complex, it forms the west extension of the city of Penglai. The masterplan adopts the Eco Compact City approach (ECC) - an urban model that attempts to balance sustainable patterns of land and resource use, with social and economic sustainability and a high quality environment. It aims to establish a rational urban footprint. This makes optimal use of land, built fabric and existing infrastructure, while minimising resource use, energy consumption and environmental pollution.
The plan features a centrally-located Marina Town Centre, along with several smaller neighborhoods linked by an open space network of green corridors and parks. The town’s 60,500 housing units will include flats, cottages, courtyard houses, terrace houses, two marina’s for circa 2,850 berths, a 27 hole golf estate, a Championship Tennis Centre, a equestrian centre, a theme park, and many other touristic amenities. Arcas Europe designed a vibrant waterfront as the new city façade of Penglai. The masterplan brings the city to the waterfront as part of a physical and cultural system within the city of Penglai, and not as a place different from the city.
