Paris-based practice made up of young architects from around the world
Officially launched in January 2001, A/ZC designed their agency as a workshop, a space where ideas and practical work combine. Dedicated to both conception and construction, it is place that aims to foster exchanges on particular themes of practice and architectural production.
A/ZC was initially located in the small French city of Colmar, a position which offered them the comfort of being at the geographic centre of Europe; above all not too far from Switzerland. Four years later, they opened their new agency in Paris, a significant act for the vision they have of their profession: architecture is tied to a place, architects are not.
The members of A/ZC come from two different countries and cultures, and have gone on 'world tours' without ever mentally putting down their suitcases. The team is made up of young architects from around the world, a diversity that they defend and maintain, helping to break through geographic and cultural boundaries and become effectual in their projects without relying on preconceptions.
Some key projects include Grenelle Tower, Paris (competition 2010); Rennes Metro Station, Rennes (completion expected 2015); a residence for the disabled, Paris (under construction - completion expected 2012), and Fonderie Healthcare Centre, Mulhouse (completed 2009).
