Sanjay Puri Architects designs the Treasure Island Mall in India

A linear sinuous structure multifaceted in function starts getting built in Bhillai, a small city in India well known for its steel production. The building weaves fluidly through the length of the site with the upper floors shifting in axis towards the main road creating a feel of movement. The three lower levels will house a retail mall, while the upper levels are created for office spaces in the front and incorporate a hotel in the rear. Unlike most mixed use buildings where distinctly different forms house different functions, in this building all the varied functions are integrated to create a homogenous structure with a strongly fluid character, allowing the built form to be perceived as a single sculptural entity. The spaces in plan as well as in volume weave through the long length fluidly encapsulating the building’s diverse functions.
