DMJM designs The Art of Place Making for the Annual Imagination Cube Awards Competition
The award “recognizes imaginative investigation and creative design that explores the potential of a building product.” Each year a different building product is chosen and this year’s featured material was Pilkington Profilit, or “channel glass.” The only limitation on designs was that they must fit within the cubic dimension of 48’X48’X48’ and use the specified material as the primary component.
DMJM Design decided to design a “memorable sculptural element, an iconic visual expression” to create identity and be a landmark for the arts district of Phoenix, titled “The Art of Place Making.”
The project was selected unanimously by the jury members including the representative from TGP who were very impressed with the clever idea of the bracketing system and were excited that it would really work. The jury thought it was well presented and showed rational thought while bringing together a quality of practically and uniqueness. Architectural jurors shared many of those same thoughts but really appreciated its siting, its aesthetic and phenomenological quality.
