Local materials incorporated into Cumbrian Yacht Club, inspired by British countryside

The Ullswater Yacht Club is located in a natural setting between the lake, mountains, trees and meadow meeting the soils of Cumbria. This scenario is reflected in the image of the new clubhouse building through its materiality.

This happens not only for reasons of image, but also a technical and constructive reason, using local materials and thus the labour of local workers, and in turn the construction budget is more economical and sustainable. The building is organised into two floors, with an intermediate floor, which connects the other two is just the control room to the races.

On the ground floor are arranged the changing rooms, toilets, storage rooms and the reception. The programme here allows this level to be flooded in case of floods, because materials can be washed down. Upstairs is the bar, kitchen and dining room. The bay windows surrounding the entire room, focus the users with a broad view of the lake and their boats.

Project executed in with Architect Filipe Freitas.
