The Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre is the last public building designed by the late Harry Seidler

The recently completed Ian Thorpe Aquatic Center in Sydney Australia is a tribute to one of Australia’s most famous athletes. The 4200 square metre facility is located on the western edge of the Darling Harbour entertainment and conference precinct. The complex contains a 50-metre pool, therapy pool, associated spaces and parking for the City of Sydney. A wave-shaped roof caps the facility. In addition to providing for a dramatic interior space, the roof also makes reference to the building’s use as viewed from the outside. Extensive glazing on the eastern side opens out onto a terrace and provides users with a view of the city skyline.
