Emerging architects strive for architecture beyond classification

The history of architecture has been ruled by an obsession to brand, group, categorize and define the different styles of the built environment. In short, it has continuously entrapped architecture in a box with definite boundaries and labeled it.

Every new style, movement or tendency denying the validity of the one it is opposed to or the one that it succeeds. Rather than getting tangled in this stale mania of backward thinking, Bunker Arquitectura has taken on the ambitious enterprise of focusing on life and the human condition as the key ingredients of an architecture that seeks to go beyond classification.

Bunker Arquitectura is a Mexico City-based architecture, urbanism and research office founded by Esteban Suarez in 2005 and partnered by his brother Sebastian Suarez. In their short career they have been able to experience and experiment with architecture in the broadest scale possible: from small iconic chapels for private clients to a master plan for an entire city. Bunker´s unconventional approach to architecture has continuously generated public controversy with projects such as a three-kilometer habitable bridge that unites the bay of Acapulco and an inverted skyscraper 300 meters deep in the main square of the historic centre of Mexico City.
