Solomon Cordwell Buenz transforms the San Francisco Skyline

Standing atop one of San Francisco’s most visible hills, One Rincon Hill serves as a pioneer in architectural and structural design and is one of the buildings transforming the San Francisco skyline. Built above the 100-foot Rincon Hill, One Rincon Hill includes two structurally unique towers offering 695 condominiums and 14 townhouses. The slender, transparent design maximizes views and enhances the urban living experience. The slight curves pay respect to the surrounding city with the taller tower curved toward city center and the shorter tower curved toward the Bay Bridge. One Rincon Hill also establishes a new benchmark for architectural and structural design of tall buildings in regions of high seismicity. The collaboration between the architect, engineer and contractor led to the development of new technology that will reshape the way tall buildings are designed. These innovations include the use of buckling restrained braces as outriggers and a tuned liquid mass damper for occupant comfort. The resulting design is a safe, attractive building that will serve as the keystone for a revitalized Rincon Hill neighborhood.
