Irish Architects / Interior Designers RORSA win Global Design Award
Irish Architects / Interior Designers, Reddy O’Riordan Staehli Architects (RORSA) have won the ‘Public Interiors’ category in the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers Design Awards for their outstanding design of the subterranean ‘Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre’, Co.Clare.
The project proved to be a seamless and total collaboration of RORSA’s architecture and interior expertise. The visitor centre, in the West of Ireland, which is set into the nearby cliffs and covered by the grass hillside, was designed to have minimal impact on the landscape. RORSA’s team based the interior and exterior building design on the natural and organic material forms within the area, creating an eco-friendly structure. The interior of the centre exposes rock, mirroring the rock face of the cliffs, which in turn minimises heating and cooling requirements.
A number of measures were taken during the design to minimise future energy and natural resource demands, by installing solar panels to generate hot water, which in turn significantly saves energy during peak season. Grey water is recycled from the wastewater treatment plant and is cleverly used to irrigate the grass roof areas over the building.
The awards are premier interior design/interior architecture awards promoting quality design, cutting edge ideas, and innovative projects while acknowledging the contributions made by global professionals.
