Detroit turns the corner on transport
Seismic shifts in transport policy are being witnessed in Detroit. The current administration's commitment to an integrated public transport network is seen by many as a vital first step towards reversing the fortunes of the city.
One of the first of a series of projects to be rolled out is The Rosa Parks Transit Centre designed by Parsons Brinckerhoff. This dramatic structure is symbolic in both architecture, making a bold visual statement in the heart of the Detroit Downtown area, but also and perhaps more importantly, it makes a strong statement about the city's new direction.
The new transport Centre links a new bus terminus to the pre-existing people mover overhead rail loop in the centre of Downtown.
