I believe a cut down version of this structure would have made a perfec t` fourth grace ` for Liverpools famous waterfront. This building is a touch of genius.

Shard becomes tallest building in Britain

Racing up at a rate of knots, Renzo Piano's Shard has now surpassed One Canada Square in London as the tallest building in the UK. The building's concrete core has now passed the 770ft (230m) mark on the journey to its final height of 1,017ft (310m) which will make it the tallest tower in the EU.

Construction on the tower has slowed for no man, with main contractors Mace installing the glass façade on the lower levels before work on the top floors has even begun. These highly glazed glass panels have been specifically designed to reflect the constantly changing London sky, meaning the whilst the Shard will be easily identifiable on the capital's skyline, its reflective façade will transform throughout the year.

Cladding already covers over a third of the building, with construction on target for the expected completion date of 14th May 2012, (although few would be surprised if this date was pulled forward).
