ASA Architectural Designs commisioned for large retail and entertainment complex in the Laoshan Mountains

Lying on the southern bank of the Shandong Peninsula, on the shores of the Yellow Sea, Qingdao is one of China's most attractive cities, integrating modern cityscapes with old European-styled architectures, blue and beautiful sea beaches scattered with red reefs, and 1,132.7-metre-high Mt. Laoshan, the highest mountain along China's coastal line. Hidden in the beautiful natural landscapes are cultural heritages, which have witnessed the rises and falls of the city and demonstrate the rich connotation of the blending of Eastern and Western cultures.

Commissioned by Eagle Canyon International, LEISUREWILDS @ QINGDAO proposed development will constitute a major entertainment, cultural and sports centre in Qingdao, to match not only the new architectural image of modern China but also the city's needs for expansion and new living standards.

Set within the magnificent Laoshan Mountains and not far from the shores of the Yellow Sea, surrounding a natural lake, the project comprises of three major parts, Culture, Entertainment and Sports with a belt of nature and game park as well as a golfing estate. Timeshare chalets benefit from the magnificent views to the sea from the mountain peaks, linked by horse and 4x4 trails. The sinuous shapes and morphology of the different parts help integrate the project within the lush mountain setting.

The Cultural and Entertainment spine offers access to theatres, opera, museums, casinos and shopping, outdoor and indoor auditoriums, and a monorail linking the arrival and main square to hotels and all venues. Extensive sports facilities and a conference centre lay the grounds for Qingdao ambitious goal to become a world's sports centre, having already establishing itself as a major sailing venue.

An experimental horticultural academy is set in the centre of the project as active green divider between its different components. The tectonic response incorporates elements that form part of the architectural language and character that Quingdao aspires to and the land use distribution will contribute to activate and reinforce the vibrancy of Leisurewilds.
