Equator Stockholm AB completes first LEED Platinum shopping centre in Europe

The core of the new city development Liljeholmen, the Liljeholmstorget project is one of the key projects in the Green European Capital 2010. A mixed-use development where public services, retail, offices and housing are integrated developed from a challenging site by replacing a parking place to create a new city hub for local citizens.

The project has been certified LEED Platinum, the highest classification for its overall environmental performance. Through its unique location, connected to an existing communication node with the subway, tramways and a bus terminal, integrating an existing office building reconverted to a public service unit with healthcare and education, the project has innovative solutions for many aspects of such a complex project; access for visitors to the shopping centre, underground parking, integrated energy management, waste management and delivery strategy.

Through its integrated functions the project allows synergies that are beneficial to a sustainable development. Energy saving, efficient use of land, waste management and water management can be handled more efficiently. This is why LEED Platinum level could be achieved. Nominated for a Mapic award 2010 and awarded by the Swedish Architects Organistion for best Urban Planning (Planpriset 2010).
