The new Springfield Data Center is designed to be at the forefront of energy efficiency
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Tier 3 N + 1 Springfield Data Center (SDC) will support over 170 agencies and public authorities and will be a 24/7/365 facility supporting mission critical applications.
The SDC, currently under construction, is located on the site of the former Springfield Technical High School in the Quarangle Mattoon Historic District in Springfield, Massachusetts. The front façade of the high school building will be preserved with a new state-of-the-art data center constructed behind it.
This SDC will permit high-speed site-to-site backup, recovery systems, long term storage, and operations. It will become the primary information technology disaster recovery site for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The Commonwealth is committed to an environmentally and ecologically responsible design for this 'Green Data Center'. The SDC will meet LEED® Gold certification with high levels of energy efficiency and sustainability metrics.
The design will incorporate current and evolving best practices technology in a facility with a full build-out capacity to accommodate 20,000 sq ft of computing space.
The building program is developed in two phases and calls for 33 state employees in the phase I development and a potential additional occupancy.
