Lohan Anderson unveil designs for new mixed-use development in Dubai
When engaged on this project, the architects were given a program for six adjacent sites and uses which could have resulted in a typical solution of a row of towers and a disjointed pedestrian experience. Lohan Anderson LLC's dramatically different solution was to instead build an integrated development where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Inspired by sand forms in the desert, this scheme is a dramatic and lyrically curved building that moves in wave fashion vertically, horizontally and dimensionally. Its wave shape provides unique opportunities for changing views of the building, as well as those from the building. The shape also fosters individual identities and entrances for the different program components.
The resulting design is purposefully an 'anti-tower' scheme that creates an iconic development that is instead lower in height, more human scaled and more visually interesting, while its singular shape offers the possibility of a more sustainable solution.
