Glistening new cultural complex in Rumilly is first step towards renewal of French city
CHABANNE & partenaires architectes with Praz Michel have completed a new library and auditorium in Rumilly, France, offering an injection of contemporary architecture to aid the renewal of the local area. ‘Quai des Arts' (‘Platform of the Arts') consists of two simple contrasting volumes set in the town square. At the side of the media library, a double skin glass façade and printed silk screen distinguishes the life of the building and provides a boost of natural light.
The golden hues of the metal cladding at the side of the hall attempt to symbolise the rich culture and knowledge of the new facility. The double skin façade acts as a vacuum, stimulating the process of thermal convection. Fresh air is taken along the east façade, through the building via small doors with adjoining grids, entering the doors of the separate offices.
