While there may be some very positive design elements to this scheme and some principles of sustainability addressed or incorporated, overall could one really consider this a 'sustainable' development? Sand dunes shift and move over time - lets see what it looks like in 20-30 years or more.

Andy Fisher workshop designs organic luxury resort in Central Vietnam

Andy Fisher workshop has designed The Westin Cam Ranh Resort and Spa in Central Vietnam. The project is located in the coastal area of Central Vietnam near Nha Trang on a 56 acre, beachfront site. The design developed an organic language in response to the dramatic coastal dune topography.

Maximising spectacular ocean and mountain views the buildings are designed to gently sit within the landscape. The guestrooms all afford spectacular views whilst the pool villas, nestled in the dunes, have planted roofs to minimise their visual impact. The spa is buried beneath the dunes to offer a contrasting environment from the exposed dune landscape above.

Gabion, rammed earth walls and brick rain-screens are blended to provide low-tech, high labour solutions aimed at offering local communities the chance to benefit from the project, at the same time offering guests a unique sense of place. The project is designed by Andy Fisher workshop with DWP Vietnam acting as the local Architects of Record.
