HKS design Zhangjiang Crowne Plaza Hotel in Shanghai on concept of balance

HKS Hill Glazier Studio has been selected to design the 300-room Zhangjiang Crown Plaza Hotel in Shanghai. Located in the Zhangjiang High Tech Park, the hotel features a grand lobby garden, signature restaurant with private dining rooms, ballroom, spa and fitness centre, and a tower level club lounge with garden terrace overlooking Shanghai.

According to Sergio Saenz, senior designer with HKS, the project celebrates the concept of random order. He explains: "It signifies the ‘yin and yang' concept of balance - while incorporating the high-tech vernacular of the area. This iconic building will brand the hotel to the high-tech park unlike any other hotel in the area.

"The exterior façade is a unique blend of blue, green and gold glass patterned into squares and rectangles, representing technology-based mathematical theory. A reflecting pool connects the buildings, promoting a literal translation of balance." The project is expected to be completed in 2012.
