Contractor pulls out of London Aquatic Centre

The programme to complete the London Olympics in time has suffered a major set back after Eiffel, the main contractor tasked with delivering Zaha Hadid’s Aquatic Centre pulled after a row with the architects. The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is now relying on a new tender from Balfour Beatty which could take months. This also gives the contractor an advantage being the only party and could allow them to set their own terms. Demolition work had already started. A spokesperson for the ODA said that the timescale was now challenging.

Public response has been harsh with one MP reportedly exclaiming to BBC radio 4, “God save us from award winning architects”
