Cannon Design celebrates ‘topping out’ for Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center
Architectural, engineering and planning firm Cannon Design has just announced that construction on the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, in Phoenix, AZ, is now fully underway.
Scheduled to open in 2011, the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center will bring an unprecedented level of cancer care to Arizona-uniting one of the country's largest nonprofit hospital systems, Banner Health, with an institution internationally recognised for its cancer treatment and research, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Located on the Banner Gateway Medical Center campus, the 131,000 sq ft cancer center houses outpatient services that include radiation oncology, outpatient imaging, multi-specialty clinics, infusion therapy, and support services. Inpatient services will be provided in the existing Banner Gateway hospital facility.
By offering a comprehensive array of advanced technologies and treatment alternatives in one location, the facility will maximise convenience, accessibility, and healing. To achieve cohesion among the cancer services provided in multiple campus buildings, site placement and context figure prominently among design considerations, as does the full spectrum of cancer patient needs.
