Artech designs new eco-village for Sichuan
The Xinjin Creative Eco-Village Project is located in Sichuan Province, about 20
km south of Chengdu City and 10 km from Shuangliu International Airport. The total area of the site is approximately 18.4 sq km, and currently sustains a
population of 17,109 residing in villages and farmland dispersed throughout
interconnected waterways.
Within the context of the Chengdu City Government’s strategic vision to develop a 'Global Modern Garden City', this project draws upon
the ideal of integrating 'Green Infrastructure' into such a template of a Garden City.
The site of the Xinjin Creative Eco-Village Project is classified into four clusters
according to their respective functions: the creative industry cluster, the residential cluster, the modern agricultural cluster and the recreational cluster. The planning for this project draws together a complex system of farmland, wetland ecosystems, and forested areas. Drawing upon the indigenous 'Lin Pan' model of community development, where communities develop encircled by bamboo and waterways, the placement of creative industry is seamlessly combined with a
design for the regeneration of local villages, and has the effect of integrating urban
development into the rural landscape.
The project began in November 2009. It has entered a phase of infrastructural
development, and is scheduled to be completed within the next 15 years.
